Vera K. Fischer founded 97 Degrees West in 2004, after many years of experience in marketing and business. Vera is very active, beyond the agency, with a multitude of educational and business engagments, including: System Execution Podcast; mentor position with Capital Factory; speaking engagements and educational sessions; all while working toward her master's degree at Texas State University and being a doting mother to her teenaged daughter.
Here's a short Q&A with Vera:
Q: Where are you from? How has it influenced you as a person?
Frankfurt, Germany. My mother left Germany in 1968 with me and pregnant with my sister. My mother was born at the close of WWII in a German work camp. Her childhood was not a childhood at all. She came to the US in search of a better life. You have to make your own life and happiness.

Q: Tell us about the person who inspires you the most?
In my Rotary International club, there are several women who are in their 70s and 80s. These women have experienced tragic loss, big success, gone back to school in their 50s, re-vented themselves several times and are hilarious. They show me that age is a pointless number.
Q: What is one word you’d use to describe your work? Why?
Enjoyment. I get to choose everyday what I want to do. I choose to come to work everyday. The good, the bad and the ugly days.
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Austin? Why?
Can’t answer this. It’s like picking a pair of favorite shoes.
Q: If your life was a TV show, what would it be?

We are an agency which is built around the belief that if you combine creative talent and humanity, you can help companies make their products, services and brands relevant to the life of their customers. We look at technology as a tool and don’t confuse it with an idea.
